Karen Holick is one of the original judges for AKC,
becoming involved at its inception and a USDAA judge for even
longer. She loves training dogs of all motivation levels and her
successes with many breeds demonstrate her effectiveness. She
believes that all dogs can be taught to run to their full potential
and agility should be a team sport and fun for the dog at all
times. She believes the most important aspect of agility training
is teaching the fundamentals and being consistent with your
handling at all times. Karen currently owns 3 dogs, including two
Shelties and a Border Collie. Her first dog (a Chow/Sheltie mix)
became her first to receive the ADCH title in USDA. She has also
achieved this title with her Sheltie and her Border Collie. Karen’s
consistency and ability to adapt her handling to various breeds
and motivational levels can be seen in her qualifying for the
USDAA World Championships, and further proven by her competing
in the Finals a total of seven times with all four of her dogs.
Her youngest Sheltie, MACH Triune’s Feeling Hot Hot Hot, “Sizzle”
has quite an impressive list of accomplishments at only four
years of age. Together, Karen and Sizzle competed for the 2003
AKC /USA World Team in Lievin, France, the 2005 AKC /USA World
Team in Vallodid, Spain, won the USDAA World Championship
Steeplechase Event in the 16-inch division and also won Silver
and Bronze medals at the ESPN Great Outdoor Games.
